TWO people have been arrested as high-powered firearms were seized during a law enforcement operation in Lanao del Sur province, police reported Monday, October 31, 2022.

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Police Regional Bureau (PRO-BAR) identified those arrested as Asnawi Macalolon and Mansawi Abdulla.

Police said the two men were arrested as part of a law enforcement operation through a search and arrest warrants on Sunday October 30 in Masiu, Lanao del Sur.

Police said the two are cohorts of Yassen Macabantog, who was the subject of an arrest warrant that police issued to Masiu.

Police said Macabantog was listed as the fourth most wanted person in Masiu and had a permanent arrest warrant for felony murder without recommended bail issued on July 11, 2022 by the Marawi City Court.

However, police said Macabantog escaped arrest when the search and arrest warrant was served on him.

A .45 caliber pistol and an AR-15 rifle along with ammunition and accessories were seized from the two Macabantog cohorts, police said.

They were taken into the custody of the Regional Field Unit of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for documentation and filing of appropriate charges.

Police Brigadier General John Guyguyon, Director of PRO-BAR, praised the efforts of operational units and staff for their relentless campaign against those wanted in the area. (SunStar Zamboanga)
