The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered Delhi Police to reconsider the safety of registered lawyer Ravi Prakash Mehrotra in light of the fact that lawyers in similar conditions are still being provided with security.

A single judge bench of Judge Rekha Palli was approached by lawyer Ravi Prakash Mehrotra who was aggrieved by the withdrawal of personal security which was provided to him without notice. Mehrotra said she was granted security in accordance with specific instructions issued by the Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench) since 2013 due to her representation of the Archaeological Survey of India and the Home Office in the Ram Janmabhoomi case.

Lead attorney Siddharth Luthra, representing Mehrotra, argued that the Allahabad High Court, in its order of September 5, 2013, said that the security of these attorneys should not be taken away under any circumstances.

Luthra added that the reason for the withdrawal from security cited by the Delhi police was that the complainant represented Hindu organizations and not the Center. He also informed the court of the threats the applicant was facing from certain organizations, including terrorist groups.

The case was set for a new hearing on November 15.
