A complaint was filed against Professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon, Dhaka University Law Department, to Shahbag Police under the Digital Security Act for allegedly making his recent derogatory remarks about Hindus and their religious beliefs on Facebook.

Bangladesh Hindu Juba Parishad Secretary General Amit Bhowmik on Sunday filed a complaint with Shahbagh Police Station against Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon.

Shahbagh Police Officer Md Mahfuzul Haque confirmed the news to New Age.

“The case was closed on August 1 under the Digital Security Law and the Cybercrime Unit is handling the case,” Mahfuzul Haque said.

According to the case statement, Hafizur Rahman Karzon posted a social media post insulting the god of the Hindu religion, which is a blow to the feelings of millions of followers of the religion around the world.

He added that Hafizur Rahman issued this message with the intention of destroying community harmony, creating religious extremism, destabilizing non-community Bangladesh and embarrassing the government.

Earlier on July 24, Amit Bhowmik also lodged a written complaint with the Shahbagh police station against the teacher about it.

Later, on July 31, a delegation from the Bangladesh Hindu Lawyers Council led by its chairman and lawyer Sumon Kumar Roy met with AU Vice-Chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman and also submitted a petition demanding the dismissal. from Professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman for this question.

Professor Cheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon said he had already apologized for his Facebook post posted on July 23.

On July 23, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon reportedly posted a message on his Facebook implicating Bhagwan with milk and wine, which caused a huge storm on social media.

Being criticized, the teacher deleted his post on July 24 and said he did not post it with the intention of humiliating the Hindu community.

“I understood my mistake and I apologized and after apologizing there is nothing left,” he said.
