  • A report alleges that several New York City law enforcement officers are involved in a far-right group.
  • Members of the far-right group were present during the Capitol riot; 18 have been charged.
  • Mayor de Blasio said a full investigation would be carried out immediately.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday he was “genuinely concerned” about the possible presence of far-right extremists and Capitol Hill riot insurgents in law enforcement in New York City and called for immediate investigation.

His comments follow a Thursday WNYC and Gothamist report who reviewed online files that a hacker posted and claimed were member information and emails from the Oath Keepers, an anti-government, far-right far-right group. According to the report, the information was given to a nonprofit organization and then distributed to researchers and journalists; it is not clear whether the records relate to currently active members of the Oath Keepers.

According to the WNYC and Gothamist report, two names in online files appear to be active officers of the New York Police Department, although the names could not be confirmed. Several other names of New York public officials were found in the files, but when contacted by WNYC and Gothamist, they said they were no longer active members of the group.

Members of the Oath Keepers group were present during the January 6 uprising; 18 members of the group have already been charged.

The mayor said there would be a full law enforcement investigation to eliminate all potential participants in the Jan.6 riot on Capitol Hill. The investigation will also focus on the involvement of law enforcement in far-right organizations such as the Oath Keepers.

“Look, the organizations that supported the January 6 insurgency and the organizations in Washington that are trying to destroy our democratic freedoms are undermining our nation, undermining our people – it’s very, very troubling to me that anyone wants to. be part, ”he added. Blasio said during a press briefing on Thursday.

The NYPD and the mayor’s office did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
