NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – After a rush to reassemble the parade, there was a last minute cutout at Krewe of Boo.

The first parade in 19 months has to adapt to certain route changes as the City says it does not have enough police officers to ensure the best possible security.

“I am concerned about the police shortages in Orleans,” said Krewe captain Brian Kern. “What’s going to hurt Carnival has nothing to do with COVID, it has to do with the police shortage. We need to fix this now for Mardi Gras to happen.”

The parade begins at Elysian Fields in the Marigny, then turns right onto North Peters and passes through the French Quarter to the Warehouse District.

The parade will no longer run on Canal Street. Instead, it will cut down to Tchoupitoulas.

Many companies and their employees were unaware of the change and it disappointed them to learn that a potential increase in business would not occur.

“When things like that happen, they attract tourism,” Don Leo Rodriguez said. “Now that Canal Street is missing, one of the main streets, you know tourists are going to go elsewhere. This kind of sucks too. It lowers my commission, you know what I’m saying?

“With them cutting the parade, it slows down our business, cuts down our hours,” Ashantilyah Lorig said.

Do not be afraid. More than 400 runners on 13 tanks will still ride through the city and there are plenty of events surrounding it, such as the Zombie Run, which already has 500 people registered according to Kern.

“That’s why I’m doing this, to make people happy and proud of my city and to make New Orleans America’s # 1 Halloween destination,” Kern said.

The parade will take place at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday evening.
