Also on Thursday, the United Nations Human Rights Council decided to deepen its examination of alleged human rights abuses by Russian forces, including potential war crimes, in previously occupied areas of Ukraine.
The resolution, adopted at an extraordinary session, calls on investigators to focus particularly on the incidents in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Sumy regions in late February and March. Ahead of the vote, UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet told the council that the “scale of unlawful killings” in Ukraine, including signs of summary executions, “is shocking”.
