CHESTER – The kids enjoyed getting their face makeup done at this year’s National Night, which was first held at New United Methodist Church in Chester. Lay leader Roberta Price welcomed everyone who showed up to the annual event. This year was the first time the event was held in Chester, rather than at the Grasonville Community Center. Organizers have decided that the event will be moved every two years between the two venues.

Sponsored by CSAFE (Collaborative Supervision and Focused Enforcement) in partnership with the Department of Health’s Prevention Services, Office of the Sheriff, QA Wellness Coalition and Citizens Against Smoking Tobacco (CAST), live music, free funnel cakes offered by the Sudlersville Ruritan Club , snow cones and gifts gave the evening a festive mood. Representatives from the County Library and the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department were also on hand, as were members of the Queen Anne’s County Drug Free Coalition with an investigation into the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Major Christopher Amoia of the Queen Anne Sheriff’s Office, representing Sheriff Gary Hofmann, who was unable to attend, also spoke.

National Night Out is traditionally a junction between the community and the police to have better relations in the protection of communities.
