MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Police arrested two people in connection with a homicide investigation in 2020.

Police said a woman was found shot dead near a hotel in the 3800 block of Lamar on October 1, 2020. Memphis Police identified the victim as Tammy Hawthorne.

Police say a woman named Taylor Williams and a man named Randall French have been charged in connection with Hawthorne’s death.

Memphis Police said investigators extracted surveillance footage and saw a suspect was filmed. Police said a Crime Stoppers tip identified the Frenchman and directed investigators to his Facebook account.

Police obtained a search warrant on their behalf and found French discussing the homicide with another person. Police said investigators then obtained a search warrant on behalf of the other person and discovered it belonged to Williams.

Memphis Police said that just hours after Hawthorne’s death, Williams put the vehicle used in the homicide up for sale.

Police reportedly arrested Williams on Friday. Police said Williams confessed to killing Hawthorne and told officers she sold the vehicle used in the homicide.

French reportedly told police he stopped at Hawthorne but did not shoot him.

Williams has been charged with first degree murder. French was charged with aiding and abetting murder.
