SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On Friday, September 2, 2022, at approximately 12:47 p.m., soldiers posted to St. Johnsbury Barracks were notified of an obstacle blocking the roadway on Burroughs Road in Wheelock. The callers informed the dispatcher that the obstruction was apparently man-made and had been placed there to block the road. When Troopers arrived at the scene, it was determined that the structure had been placed there by a roadside resident, identified as Jeremey Currier, 46, of Wheelock. Currier had confronted a person trying to remove the obstruction, who then called 911. During the altercation, Currier had brandished a firearm at several people who were trying to enter the roadway. While Troopers were at the scene, Currier emerged from his residence in possession of a firearm. Soldiers used less-lethal impact munitions to safely defuse the incident, with Currier refusing to follow orders. Currier was held without bail by the Honorable Justice Justin Jiron. Currier was housed at the North East Regional Correctional Center in St. Johnsbury. It was determined that Currier also had a warrant for his arrest for an unrelated criminal charge.
