A 17-year-old girl, reported missing while jogging in a forest in northwestern France, has been found alive, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
The girl’s disappearance has sparked a mass search and nationwide concern.
“Police confirm that the girl who disappeared yesterday has been found alive,” said regional prosecutor Céline Maigne.
Ms Maigne said the girl would be taken to hospital for health checks.
Investigators were using data from her running app, which showed the girl’s training had abruptly stopped in a rural area of ​​Mayenne in northwestern France.
Ms Maigne said earlier that she had opened a kidnapping investigation, but added that “no lines of inquiry” were underway regarding the teenager’s fate.
About 200 police officers joined in the search for the girl, who has not been identified by authorities, after her parents sounded the alarm on Monday evening when she did not return from her jogging. afternoon.
Her father traveled to the area where she was known to run but could not find her.
Data from the Strava running app she used showed the young woman only ran 1km, not her usual 5km loop, before stopping in the Bellebranche forest.
Her father found various personal effects belonging to his daughter, which are being examined, Ms. Maigne said.
She described the girl as “perfectly focused, neat, athletic”. There were no further details on the circumstances of his reappearance.
Local radio France Bleu said earlier that a phone and headphones, with traces of blood, had been found in the area.
